About Me My story started earlier than Mommy and Daddy expected! My due date was August 25, 2007. I had other plans though. Here's how my beginning went. My mommy was going to start the first day of her new job on Monday, May 7. While learning the ropes she started feeling very sick. She told her supervisor what was going on and they sent her home. After Mommy called Daddy and then her doctor to tell them what was going on, she went with Daddy to St. Luke's emergency room. They were sent to the Labor and Delivery floor so the doctor could see what was going on. The doctor there ran some test and saw that my mommy was leaking amniotic fluid! That means she was already dilated! Since that is not a good thing to have happen at only 24 weeks gestation, they gave Mommy a shot to help my lungs get strong and then they sent her in an ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital. In the labor and delivery triage the doctors assessed Mommy and found around 10 o'clock that she was 4 centimeters dilated. They thought they might be able to hold off the labor and keep Mommy at the hospital for weeks or even months. The doctors then gave my Mommy an amniocentesis to check the fluid I'd been living in. They tested it for infection and left Mommy, Daddy, and Mammaw Sandy to sleep a little while they were getting the results. Around 5 a.m. on May 8th they woke Mommy up and checked her dilation. They found she was dilated 6 centimeters! The doctor said they would have to deliver me and by c-section so my little head wouldn't get stuck in the birth canal. By 7 o'clock they had started the c-section. I was born 56 minutes later! The neonatologist, Dr. Fasciglia, kept saying, "She's very sick, she's very sick," because I wasn't breathing. They gave me three shots of epinephrine, let Mommy kiss me and then they swept me off to the NICU. The doctors found later that Mommy's amniotic fluid was infected and that she had amnionitis. I had dropped my first meconium (my first bowel movement) and most likely that is what caused Mommy to go into preterm labor. So that's how I got here so early! I've been in the NICU eversince then and will most likely stay there until my original due date. Make sure that you come see me and check my site often to see my little progress! Love ya so much! |
